Lay Employees' Orientation Day

Learn a little bit more about the wider church; the resources available to you; and become a part of a supportive lay network.

The Lay Employees’ Orientation Day comprises training for newly appointed lay employees working in a church context. It is designed to give a better understanding of the role of church worker, both in general and in one’s own setting. The day’s topics, and the opportunity to share together, will help develop a strong foundation of good practice.

The day will include:
 developing employees’ understanding of the context of their lay ministry
 pastoral care, including safeguarding children and adults and working with confidentiality
 deepening employees’ understanding of how groups function
 exploring effective communication skills
 reflecting on their job descriptions and the appraisal scheme
 exploring different models of spiritual development, faith sharing, and vocation
 key elements of Methodist history and doctrine.
